At the Parkland Federation, we teach French as our chosen foreign language.   We do this from Early Years through to KS2. In Reception, pupils are introduced to French through song, rhyme and word play during led sessions.  In KS1 and KS2 a basic introduction to French is taught by the MFL coordinator, Mr Oakes. Lessons are based on each year group’s topics and planned so that as pupils move through the school they will build on the previous year’s learning.

In line with the National Languages Strategy, we believe that Modern Foreign Language prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world – One in which work and other activities are often carried out in languages other than English. The Teaching of MFL at the Parkland Federation aims to lay a solid foundation for a choice of secondary languages (not necessarily French) as well as a lifelong love of learning.  Increased capability in the use of MFL promotes initiative, confidence and independent learning and also encourages recognition of the diverse nature of society.

In KS2 pupils are having weekly French lessons every other term as part of their enrichment afternoon but the vocabulary continues to be revisited and applied to our topics throughout the year. Please have a look at the pages below to see what we are learning and to find lots of fun resources to explore and support learning at home.
